We believe that the needs of children and parents are unique; hence we have different activities that cater to children with different abilities. Any activity taken up by Rockwellers is aimed at the overall development of body, mind and spirit. These are designed keeping in mind various Multiple Intelligences and at the same time there are the manifestations of various inherent capabilities and the qualities. The various intelligences which are embedded in a child, surface according to their interests and disinterests.
The participation in the performing arts, visual arts and music has a valuable experience that broadens students’ understanding and appreciation of the world around them. It is also well known and widely recognized that the arts contribute significantly to children’s intellectual and physical development. It also leads to the whole brain development in a child. (because through arts both the right as well as the left brain is equally used and developed) We have enough scientific evidence that proves-education in the arts should be nourished and cultivated in our children as it makes better math and science students, It also enhances spatial intelligence in newborns.
Physical: Physical education plays a critical role in educating the whole student.
There are a number of ways in which physical education class benefits students for overall physical well being. PE curriculum helps students to develop their motor skills, fitness and physical activity knowledge. The PE contributes to the development of self-esteem amongst children and research proves that children who are more active have greater social success and positive relations with peers.
In the scheme of education, Rockwell lays great stress on physical health because a sound mind resides in a sound body. As quoted in the Upanishadic dictum ‘Nayamatma Balahinena Labhyah’; i.e. the self cannot be realized by the physically weak. So at Rockwell we expose/encourage our children to various physical activities which include Gymnastics, Karate, Cricket, Tennis etc.
Dramatic Arts education is an important means of stimulating CREATIVITY IN PROBLEM SOLVING. It can CHALLENGE STUDENTS’ PERCEPTIONS about their world and about themselves. Dramatic exploration can provide students with an outlet for emotions, thoughts, and dreams that they might not otherwise have means to express. A student can, if only for a few moments, BECOME ANOTHER, explore a new role, try out and experiment with various personal choices and solutions to very real problems-problems from their own life, or problems faced by characters in literature or historical figures. At Rockwell this happens in a SAFE ATMOSPHERE under the guidance of professionally trained faculty, where actions and consequences are examined and discussed. Drama also helps students to develop TOLERANCE, EMPATHY and COMMUNICATION.
